Out of an abundance of caution and in order to safeguard the health of patrons and employees, the Alfred Noble Library, 32901 Plymouth Road, was closed today due to water damage and the presence of elevated levels of one type of mold, Penicillium/Aspergillus group.
No Stachybotrys or toxic black mold was detected. No other fungal groups tested beyond trace levels or beyond current or historic outdoor levels for that group.
The City requested the investigation by an outside agency, which conducted visual observations, moisture meter testing and air sampling at the Noble site.
While the City determines possible plans for remediation, the Noble branch will remain closed.
During the closure, the Carl Sandburg Library on Seven Mile west of Middle Belt, will be open Monday through Thursday. All programs originally scheduled at the Noble branch will be held at Sandburg. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Thank you for your support and patience!
