Dear Library Patrons,
I know many of you are curious about the library’s reopening plans and timeline so I wanted to reach out and share some updates about our services, and how things will be working for the near future. The Library will be closed to the public until further notice, but library staff are hard at work planning online and outdoor programming.
Thanks to your enthusiasm, we have hit our stride in this “curbside reopening” phase and we thank you for all the positive feedback you have given us. We will continue this service even when we reopen for our “grab and go” phase. Our current hours of operation at the Bennett Civic Center Library are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday & Friday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday. The Carl Sandburg Library is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you are interested in curbside pickup, call Bennett Civic Center Library at 734-466-2491 or Carl Sandburg Library at 248-893-4010 to schedule your pickup appointment. Arrive at your scheduled time and park in your designated space and call the library. Please open your trunk or lower a backseat window and a staff member will place your items accordingly.
If you have items to return you can use the new drive-up book return at the Bennett Civic Center Library or the book return at the Carl Sandburg Library; both are available 24/7.
Although we are not charging fines for overdue items, you may receive an overdue notice or a “lost item” notice. These notices are sent out automatically as a courtesy to remind you to return your items in a timely manner. Other patrons may be waiting for the book or movie you checked out, so please continue to follow the due dates. Returned items are quarantined for 4 days before being removed from your account.
While we do not have firm dates for reopening, we are hopeful that it will be very soon. During the “Grab and Go” phase, patrons will be able to come in and browse for items and check them out. Seating and meeting room use will not be available at this time, and a limited number of patrons will be allowed inside each library building per local and state requirements. The Bennett Civic Center library will remain closed until the public entrance construction is completed.
It is my sincere hope that you are staying safe and will continue to do so. The entire library staff are looking forward to a time when we can meet again. Please continue to check our website and social media for updates and exciting virtual programs.
Thank you for your continued support,
Toni LaPorte, Library Director
